Being good at reprimanding!\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tibicon.net\/en\/2019\/08\/a-key-quality-of-a-leader-being-good-at-reprimanding\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a real leader is good at reprimanding<\/a>, right?<\/p>\n<p>Well, I think the reprimand plays an essential role: as long as we take a few essential actions.<\/p>\n<p>Having suffered many reprimands myself, I\u2019m now proud to show you a reprimanding model that might be useful in correcting without depressing.<\/p>\n<p>Would you like to become a courteous reprimander too?<\/p>\n<p>Then learn all about it!<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b><br \/>\n<\/b>The constructive reprimand<\/h2>\n<p>A constructive reprimand is a tool aimed at containing or preventing behaviour that might lead to ineffective performance or jeopardize effective performance while <b>avoiding the emotional destruction of the staff member.<\/b><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"parent-p-bottom-0\" style=\"color: #cd2b04;\"><br \/>\n<\/span>When is the right moment to reprimand the unfortunate staff member?<\/h3>\n<p>Immediately after observing the behaviour you intend to correct (tomorrow is too late), only if well prepared.<\/p>\n<h3>What is the best place for a reprimand?<\/h3>\n<p>Alone, never in public: how bad can a person feel, when exposed to public humiliation? And what will his professional performance be like in the following days?<\/p>\n<h3>How should the difficult task be managed?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Separate the problem from the person; even the best staff members make mistakes.<\/li>\n<li>Ask open-ended questions that help the person to get straight to the point, and to become aware of the behaviour to correct and the action to take.<\/li>\n<li>Share areas for improvement and corrective actions without being redundant or repetitive (if possible).<\/li>\n<li>Wait or ask for feedback.<\/li>\n<li>Bring the matter to a close by reaffirming your esteem and faith in the person, then end the conversation or change the subject.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How long should a suitable reprimand last?<\/h3>\n<p>Ideally, a reprimand is short, rarely longer than 5 minutes.<\/p>\n<h3>What communication style should be adopted?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Never use harsh or \u2013 worse \u2013 offensive words: not only is an insult a sign of bad taste, but it also obscures the content.<\/li>\n<li>Use a level tone of voice (if you\u2019re angry,\u00a0take three deep breaths, and only start when you feel ready).<\/li>\n<li>Never repeat the same argument twice: It is better to avoid the embarrassment of talking in circles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Complicated?
